This cook book was featured in Runners World magazine. I liked a few of the recipes I saw and decided to make them before purchasing the whole cook book. I made the spaghetti with bison meatballs and was SOLD! But then I thought, well maybe they only featured the *best* recipe. I tried the others that Runners World featured and they were all a-mazing! I decided to buy the cook book but was fully prepared to have my hopes dashed of finding a book full of great recipes.Let's be real, we've all bought that cook book that has a few great recipes and that's it. I have plenty of them in my cabinet. Sure they've got a few great recipes but I largely ignore most of the book because they're total crap. Not with Run Fast, Eat Slow. I've tried several recipes from all of the sections and they have all been a hit! In fact, I made the mashed yams with sage brown butter for Thanksgiving and people were going nuts for it! There's a few things I like about this book.1. It tastes amazing AND it's healthy. I love eating healthy but my husband is much more difficult to convince. These recipes pack in some awesome food that's great for you and tastes great. I have yet to make a bad meal from this book.2. It isn't difficult. Don't you hate when you buy a cookbook that wants you to do some professional level stuff and you're like "uuuhhhh what?" Yeah, not this book. It's all very straight forward and easy to make.3. Each recipe has a "story." Shalane and Elyse explain the purpose behind each recipe. It helps you understand why certain things were added, what makes the recipe great, and the purpose of the recipe. It helps you decide between recipes (because they're all sooooo good) when you're like "man I really need some energy." Boom, drink this amazing green tea green apple smoothie! Awesome awesome stuff.I've bought several of these cook books and have gifted them to people because it's THAT amazing. I've never been this excited about a cook book or cooking. While I've always loved to cook, this cook book has made eating so much better. Go on ahead and order yourself a copy. You won't regret it.

As I sit here finishing yet another delicious sweet potato breakfast cookie, I realized I need to give this book a five-star review! I have been slowly cooking my way through this entire book! I usually buy a cookbook, enjoy it, then put it on the shelf. THIS book does not sit on the shelf for more than a few days at a time!I love it because this is just the kind of nourishment runners (and athletes in general) need to keep going day after day. I love the author's philosophy about eating well and eating real food instead of counting calories.I bought this book when it was first published and started telling my running friends about it. A few of them bought the book. They loved it. (When Shalane came to the Shamrock Sportsfest in Virginia Beach we were so excited to meet her!)Then they started telling more of our running community about it. Now I feel like I know at least 20 people with this book. We even started a Run Fast Eat Slow cooking club! We have been getting together to cook the food out of the book to share and bring home!I love the kale farro salad, the beet smoothie and the broccoli soup. However, that sweet potato cookie is the perfect thing to eat before a morning run. I'll eat one or two upon waking, then foam roll, and then I am primed for a good run! I look forward to cooking more from this great book!

Let me start by saying I hate cooking. Hate wouldn’t even be a strong enough word to be honest. However, wanting to run farther and faster, I’ve begrudgingly come to accept that I will have to do this in order to accomplish my goals.I read this book cover to cover and nearly all of the recipes sound like something I can weather. Some ingredients like bison (not available in the Middle East) and farro (not even sure what that is) I won’t be able to try but the lion’s share are readily available and I’m even making a list to go to their grocery store right now to start making changes. I liked that they said what could be frozen AND how to defrost it. I loved that they discussed runner ailments and the recipes that specifically target those ailments.I heard about this book on the Run The Year (Run 2017 Miles in 2017) Facebook page as many were getting it as a Christmas gift so I gifted it to myself.

This book has had a huge impact on my life. It has given me confidence in the kitchen and helped me become a healthier individual. It's a little weird at first because it uses a lot of ingredients I had never bought before (almond flour, teff flour, almond milk, etc) but after I found everything (bulk foods department!), I've fallen in love with several of the recipes. My favorites so far include the superhero muffins, kale quinoa salad, and the beet smoothie (and I have never liked smoothies before). I don't know that my endurance has improved or my recovery time has shortened, but perhaps time will tell.

Fabulous cookbook with great recipes & beautiful photos! One of the best parts (that I haven't seen in other cookbooks) is how each recipe has a purpose. For example "recovery snack" or "immediate energy boost" or for "speed-workout days". Well done Shalane & Elyse!

Had high hopes but not impressed with the recipes. I love to cook and I enjoy many of the ingredients used in the recipes but not in the combinations the authors used. Everything tasted off. The chili was probably the best but I have a better recipe I prefer. I love beets but couldn’t stomach the beet smoothie. Not for me.
